Smooth journey, small issue

I booked a Monthly Season Ticket for my commute from Wrexham to Chester. The website was pretty easy to navigate, and getting the e-ticket was quick. My journey is usually quite smooth, trains are generally on time. The only slight downside was that the app was a bit slow to load live times a couple of mornings, but it always caught up eventually. Still a good way to save money on daily travel compared to buying separate tickets.

Easy booking, no fees!

I used the Transport for Wales site to book an Advance Single ticket from Cardiff to Llandudno Junction. The process was so quick and straightforward, and I love that there are no booking fees. It saved me a lot compared to other sites. Will definitely be checking here first for future train travel!

Good value Off-Peak ticket

I bought an Off-Peak Day Return from Swansea to Carmarthen. I used my 16-25 Railcard, which made it even cheaper. The discount was applied automatically, which was good. The train was on time. It felt like a really good deal overall for the journey, much better than driving and paying for parking.

Thinking of heading to Cardiff next month, probably a weekend trip. How early do you really need to book tickets to get a good deal? Is there a sweet spot for those Advance tickets?

W William T. 2 weeks ago
Yeah, for weekends especially, as soon as you know your dates. I usually try to grab them 8-12 weeks out if I can. They do disappear fast.

Afaik, a good rule of thumb is a few weeks out. The closer you get to the travel date, the more expensive they get. And definitely try to go off-peak if your plans are flexible, saves a ton.

Anyone used one of those Rover tickets for North Wales? Thinking about a trip around Snowdonia and just wondering if they're actually worth it compared to buying individual tickets.

I used the Cambrian Coast Ranger last year, it was pretty good. If you're planning on hopping on and off a few times in one day, it definitely works out cheaper than singles. Plus it's way less hassle.

Depends on how much exploring you're doing. If you're just doing one or two stops, maybe not. But for like 3+ journeys in a day, then yeah, they're usually a solid bet. Makes things easier than fumbling for tickets constantly.
